Okidata 320/321 Printer Settings

This section provides information on how to correctly configure the settings on your Okidata 320/321 printer. Specifically, there are three settings that are required by the software in order to correctly print forms. These settings are:

  1. Printer Emulation
  2. Bottom Margin
  3. Paper Out Override

You can change these settings by navigating through the printer's own menu. As you move through the settings, each setting is printed out in the form:

GROUP          ITEM          SETTING
where:
GROUP is a group of items that control a similar part of the printer's functions. For example, there are a number of items related to the character and symbol settings of the printer. They are therefore grouped together into a group called "Symbol Sets."

ITEM is one of the specific elements in a group. For example, in the Symbol Sets group, there is an item called "Language Set."

SETTING is the current value of the item. For example, the Language Set item can be set to "American" to print American symbols, letters, and numbers. It could also be set to "French," "German," "British," "Italian," etc.

Changing the settings is done by using the button panel on the front of the printer. The button panel should look similar to this:

The buttons are numbered as follows:

  1. GROUP: Moves to and prints the next group in the menu. If you press the GROUP button while holding down the SHIFT button, the printer will move to and print the previous group in the menu.
  2. ITEM: Moves to and prints the next item in the group. If you press the ITEM button while holding down the SHIFT button, the printer will print the previous item in the group.
  3. SET: Moves to and prints the next setting for the item. If you press the SET button while holding down the SHIFT button, the printer will print the previous setting for the item.
  4. PRINT: Prints a copy of all the menu settings. If you press the PRINT button while holding down the SHIFT button, the printer will print the settings for the current combination of group, item, and setting.
  5. MENU Light: Lights up when the printer is in MENU mode.

Moving through the printer menu

You printer contains an internal list of settings. In order to change these settings, you must put your printer into MENU mode. When in menu mode, the printer will print its settings for you to read. You can examine the printed settings and determine if the setting should be left as-is or changed.

To put your printer into MENU mode, you must first feed in a piece of paper in order for the printer to print the settings. Once the paper is loaded into the printer, press the MENU button while holding down the SHIFT button. This will cause the printer to enter MENU mode, and the MENU light will light up.

Press the GROUP button until the group settings you want to change are printed.

Once you have selected the appropriate group, press the ITEM button until the item settings you want to change are printed.

Once you have selected the appropriate item, pres the SET button until the item setting you want is printed.

Continue moving through the groups, items, and settings until you have set up your printer correctly. Once you are sure you have all the appropriate settings entered, press the MENU button while holding down the SHIFT button. This will take your printer out of MENU mode, and the MENU light will turn off.
