Basic Detail Entry
Items such as make, model, style,
number of cylinders, transmission, and basic standard equipment
will automatically be filled in after you enter a VIN. The
Make, Model, Purchase Date, Stock
Number, and VIN are required fields. If any of these are
missing, the vehicle will not be added to the inventory.
If the information for a particular non-mandatory field (i.e. a
field not listed above) is unavailable or unnecessary, simply leave
that field blank.
To begin entering a vehicle into your inventory, enter the date
you purchased this vehicle into the Purchase Date box. You may use
the calendar button to easily select a date from a menu. After you
enter a date, a box to the right of the date will display the
number of days this particular vehicle has been in your
inventory.
If you have already selected the option to generate automatic stock numbers, an
automatic stock number will be inserted into the Stock
Number field. You may override an automatic stock number if you
wish. Otherwise, the Stock Number field will be blank and
ready to accept a manually-entered stock number.
Enter the vehicle's VIN into the VIN box. Once you move the
cursor to another part of the screen, the software will know that
you have completed entering the VIN and will then try to use its
built-in VIN decoder to extract standard vehicle information, such
as the year, make, and model, and fill in the apporpriate boxes on
the screen. You may override any information the software fills in
for you.
Enter the vehicle's status into the New or Used
box by using the dropdown box to choose from New,
Used, Transit, or Wholesale .
Note: if New is selected, additional
descriptive fields pertaining only to new vehicles will appear
under the Other Information tab.
You may also wish to add options, pictures, and a tag line to your vehicle's listing.
